HOW TO MEASURE CURTAINS/DRAPES

Measuring the Width

If you already have a drapery rod, measure the distance between the finials (the decorative ends of the drapery rod).

If you already have a track, measure the total length of the track.

If you do not already have a rod or track, then you will need to determine the total width that you would like your drapery to cover.

Measure the width of the window, including the window frame/trim if applicable.

When measuring the width to be covered, we recommend adding an extension of 6-15 inches (15-40 cm) to each side of the window measurement. You may add more extension if you wish to create the illusion of a wider window.

By doing this, when the curtains are open, they will not block as much of the glass and it will allow lighter and make the window appear larger.

Also, by adding these extra inches to the width, it will extend the drapery coverage and help keep out extra light when they are closed.

Width = Window Width + Left Extension (6-15 inches) + Right Extension (6-15 inches)

Measuring the Length

If your drapery rod is not already in place, you will first need to determine the height at which you want to place your drapery rod. Please ensure there is at least 4-6 inches(10-15cm) space above the curtain rod to facilitate proper installation and use of the curtains.

We recommend Measure from 6-10 inches(15-25cm) above the top of your window to create a professional look and to give the illusion of height. This will become the placement height of your drapery rod.

Measured Height is the distance from the top edge of the rod or the bottom edge of the track down to your desired curtain length.

The Measured Height shown in the above diagram is not the Curtain Length. The Curtain Length varies depending on the header style. Please refer to the table below for the measurement methods of different header types.

Rod Pocket	Rod pocket curtains require no hook allowance or top margin, so Curtain Length = Measured Height.
Back Tab	Back tab curtains require no hook allowance or top margin, so Curtain Length = Measured Height.
Flat Panel	Curtain Length = Measured Height - Hook Allowance (2.35 inches-2.75 inches or 60mm-70mm)

Depending on functionality and style, there are typically six curtain lengths, which are: to the sill, below the sill, above the radiator, above the floor, to the floor, and puddle on the floor.

1. To the Sill

How to measure: The curtain ends just at or slightly above the window Measure from the top of the rod/track to the window sill. Subtract 0.5 inch (1 cm) if you would like your curtains to sit just above the window sill.
Best For: Smaller windows or when you want to keep the sill exposed for decoration or functionality (e.g., plants).
Visual Effect: Offers a clean, neat look and allows the windowsill to remain visible.
Functionality: Ideal for spaces where the sill is an important feature or for small windows where you don't want to cover the sill.

2. Below the Sill

How to measure: The curtain hangs just below the windowsill, usually a few inches down. Measure from the top of the rod/track to your desired length past the windowsill (we recommend adding 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) below the windowsill, but this is subject to personal preference, as well as the window size, ceiling height, and room proportions).
Best For: When you want to keep the windowsill visible but provide some coverage or privacy below it.
Visual Effect: Adds some layering while still showing the sill. It creates a balanced look without covering the window's full length.
Functionality: Perfect for kitchens or bathrooms where the sill may have objects but you still need light control.

3. Above the Radiator

How to measure: The curtain hangs above the radiator or heater, leaving space between the bottom of the curtain and the radiator. Measure from the top of the rod/track to your desired length above the radiator (we recommend the curtains finish 1-2 inches (3-5 cm) above the radiator, but this is subject to personal preference).
Best For: Rooms with radiators or heating elements where you want to avoid blocking the heat.
Visual Effect: Provides a higher hang, elongating the look of the room and creating a more refined, formal appearance.
Functionality: Prevents curtains from obstructing airflow from the radiator and is practical for energy efficiency in colder seasons.

4. Above the Floor

How to measure: The curtain hangs just above the floor, usually about an inch or less off the ground. Measure from the top of the rod/track to your desired length above the floor (we recommend subtracting 1-3 inches (2.5-7.5 cm) from the floor, but this is subject to personal preference, as well as the window size, ceiling height, and room proportions).
Best For: Modern or minimalist designs, especially when you want to keep the floor clear and avoid dust accumulation.
Visual Effect: Gives a streamlined, tidy appearance, maintaining a clean line with the floor.
Functionality: Ideal for rooms with frequent foot traffic, as the curtains won't drag on the floor or collect dirt.

5. To the Floor

How to measure: The curtain reaches down to the floor, with the hem touching the surface. Measurefrom the top of the rod/track to the floor.
Best For: Most standard window treatments in living rooms and bedrooms, offering full coverage and privacy.
Visual Effect: Creates a formal, elegant look, and makes the room feel taller by drawing the eye downward.
Functionality: Suitable for most residential settings where you want complete privacy and a finished look.

6. Puddle on the Floor

How to measure: The curtain extends several inches past the floor, forming a soft "puddle" effect on the ground. Measure from the top of the rod/track to your desired length. We recommend adding 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) to the length-to-the-floor: 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) for slight pooling, and 10-12 inches (25-30 cm) for more dramatic pooling. However, this is subject to personal preference.
Best For: Luxurious or dramatic window treatments in formal or grand rooms, such as in a living room or master bedroom.
Visual Effect: Adds an opulent, dramatic feel, making the room appear taller and more refined.
Functionality: While visually striking, it requires more maintenance, as the extra fabric can collect dust and dirt on the floor. It's more about aesthetics than practicality.

Fullness Ratio

Curtain fullness refers to the relationship between the ordering width and the amount of fabric used in your curtains. The ordering width is the measurement of the area you want to cover, usually the width of your curtain rod (between the finials) or track. Fullness is a key aspect of curtain design, as it determines how the fabric will drape and gather when hung. Different heading styles require different fullness ratios, since some styles naturally use more fabric to achieve their intended look.

Fullness is typically expressed as a multiplier (e.g., 2x). For example, if your ordering width is 50 inches and your curtains measure 100 inches in total fabric width, the fullness is 2x—meaning twice the amount of fabric is used compared to the ordering width.

While we always ensure the correct fabric amount is applied for the chosen heading style, you may notice cost variations between different styles. These differences usually arise from the amount of fabric required to achieve the specific fullness ratio of each heading type.

Example Calculation: If your curtain rod(between the finials) or track measures 50 inches and you choose Grommet/Eyelet Top curtains, the recommended fullness is 1.5x. To calculate the total width:

Ordering width: 50 inches
Fullness ratio: 1.5
Total fabric width: 50 inches × 1.5 = 75 inches

For a pair of curtains, divide the total width by two:
75 inches ÷ 2 = 37.5 inches per curtain panel.

This ensures your curtains achieve the ideal drape and aesthetic when hung.

I’m so impressed with these curtains

The blackout lining actually works — no more sunlight waking me up early. The linen look gives them a soft, elegant touch, and they slide easily on the rod. Great combo of style and function. Most impressively, they arrived well-packed and had no wrinkles or chemical smell right out of the package, so we could hang them immediately. Because we have hurricane-standard windows, I can't personally speak to the thermal or noise-reducing claims, but the build quality is undeniable. Overall, these are a fantastic value for the money, delivering a high-end look and true blackout performance. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I bought these based on all the photos. These are really very nice curtains for the price. The fabric is high quality and doesn’t look cheap at all. The texture is a smooth linen, the lining is lightweight, but still darkens the room well. The grommets are all well made and the finish along the curtains edges looks professional. Wow, I love these curtains! They turned out even better than I'd hoped. They completely block all light and do a fantastic job of muffling noise from outside.
