HOW TO MEASURE BLINDS & SHADES
Roman, Roller, Solar, Cellular, Zebra Shades & Shangri-La, Venetian Blinds
FOLLOW OUR STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
INSIDE MOUNT

Mounted inside the window frame for a sleek, built-in look that keeps your trim visible. This option requires a certain amount of space, known as the minimum depth requirement. Minimum depth requirements vary by product and are noted in each product's details.
STEP 1 MEASURE THE WIDTH
Since windows are not always perfectly square, measure the width in three places-top, middle, and bottom (see diagram above). Use the smallest one as your ordering width. We will make the necessary deductions (about 1/8"–1/2" or 3mm-12mm).
| WIDTH | RECORD MEASUREMENT |
|---|---|
| A: TOP | |
| B: MIDDLE | |
| C: BOTTOM |
* Smallest of the 3 width measurements is your ordering width.
Note: All measurements must be accurate to the nearest 1/8 inch or provided in millimeters.
Material Note: The actual material width is always a little less than the ordering width to allow for brackets. How much less depends on the control type you select.
STEP 2 MEASURE THE LENGTH
To find the length, measure your window in three spots-left, center, and right (see diagram above). Use the largest number as your ordering length.
| LENGTH | RECORD MEASUREMENT |
|---|---|
| D: LEFT | |
| E: CENTER | |
| F: RIGHT |
*Largest of the 3 length measurements is your ordering length.
Note: All measurements must be accurate to the nearest 1/8 inch or provided in millimeters.

STEP 3: MEASURE THE DEPTH
Measure the depth at the top of your window’s inside casing. This ensures there’s enough space for a secure inside mount and helps determine if a flush mount (where the product sits within the frame) is possible. Product depth varies by control type and options. Minimum depth requirements vary by product and are noted in each product page's details.
| DEPTH | RECORD MEASUREMENT |
|---|---|
| G: DEPTH |
Note: All measurements must be accurate to the nearest 1/8 inch or provided in millimeters.
For some types of blinds or shades, you can choose a NO DRILL INSIDE MOUNT option. The measuring method for NO DRILL INSIDE MOUNT and INSIDE MOUNT is exactly the same. However, for NO DRILL INSIDE MOUNT, the material width is the same as the ordering width, since there are no brackets, and therefore no deductions are needed.
OUTSIDE MOUNT

- Mounted outside or above the window frame
- Creates a taller, more dramatic look
- No minimum depth required
STEP 1: MEASURE THE WIDTH
Measure the width of the area you want to cover. If space allows, add 2–3" or 50mm-80mm (about 1–1½" or 25mm-40mm on each side) to reduce light gaps. The final number will be your ordering width and the overall width of the shade.
| LENGTH | RECORD MEASUREMENT |
|---|---|
| A: TOTAL WIDTH TO COVER |
* Use this as your ordering width.
Note: All measurements must be accurate to the nearest 1/8 inch or provided in millimeters.
STEP 2: MEASURE THE LENGTH
Measure the height of the area you want to cover. The result will be your ordering length.
| LENGTH | RECORD MEASUREMENT |
|---|---|
| B: TOTAL HEIGHT TO COVER |
* Use this as your ordering length.
Note: All measurements must be accurate to the nearest 1/8 inch or provided in millimeters.
